Farmers in zone C, Kim Thanh district, (including the communes of Dong Cam, Kim Tan, Binh Dan, Kim Dinh, etc.) have started harvesting jicamas with an average productivity of 2.7 – 3 tons/ sao (360 m²).
Kim Thanh farmers make a profit of 12 – 15 million VND/ sao of jicamas, up 1 – 3 million VND/ sao year on year
The selling price in fields is 10,000 – 12,000 VND/ kg, an increase of 5,000 – 6,000 VND/ kg year on year. In the fields underwritten by traders from the time the plant began to yield tuber, jicamas are sold for 15 – 17 million VND/ sao.
According to many people, this is the year jicamas are priced the highest ever. At the current price, farmers make a profit of 12 – 15 million VND/ sao, up 1 – 3 million VND/ sao.
Jicamas are sold favorably this year because the Covid-19 epidemic was put under control and rain-caused waterlogging in some provinces in the Central region led to a shortage of vegetable supply.
In the 2022 – 2023 winter crop, Kim Thanh district grew more than 200 ha of jicamas, concentrated in zone C communes. Nearly 40 ha of jicamas in the district were cultivated under VietGAP standard.
