Thanh Ha lychee has not only conquered the domestic market but also reached out to international ones like Japan, the EU, and the US.
In the early years following the August 1945 Revolution, the first Party cell in Thanh Ha district, Hai Duong province identified agricultural development as a top priority to stabilize local livelihoods.
A turning point came with the organized cultivation of Thuy Lam lychee, regarded as a natural treasure of Thanh Ha and a delicacy of Hai Duong.
Hoang Van Com, who planted the original lychee tree in Thuy Lam hamlet, Thanh Son commune, Thanh Ha district, was encouraged to propagate this valuable variety.
By the 1960s, in response to President Ho Chi Minh’s “Tree Planting Festival” movement, Party cells brought lychee trees to communes across the district, gradually establishing a large-scale specialized farming zone.
Following Vietnam's Renewal period, Party organizations at all levels in Thanh Ha played a central political role in transforming agricultural models. Party leadership worked closely with local farmers from restructuring lychee cultivation based on the characteristics and strengths of each locality’s soil to advancing farming techniques and preserving the original lychee tree.
Especially, in the early 2000s, numerous large-scale agricultural projects were synchronously implemented by Hai Duong province and Thanh Ha district. The district Party Committee issued a special resolution on fruit-tree development, designating lychee as a strategic crop.
The communes of Ha Dong and Ha Nam were zoned for lychee cultivation, with Ha Dong focusing on early-harvest lychees, while Ha Nam, Ha Bac, and Ha Tay specialized in the main season variety.
To date, Thanh Ha lychee has not only conquered the domestic market but also reached out to international ones like Japan, the EU, and the US. The district has 167 production unit codes for lychee export.
Thanh Ha lychee has earned Geographical Indication status along with a host of other titles, including “Top 10 reputable quality products,” “The quintessence of three regions’ specialties,” “Golden brand,” etc.
Most recently, in October 2024, Thanh Ha lychee was awarded the “Vietnam agricultural golden brand” by the Vietnam General Council of Agriculture and Rural Development.
