Located at the heart of the Red River Delta, Hai Duong province plays a key role as a major transportation hub. The province boasts a high density of road infrastructure compared to many other localities in the region, with evenly-distributed networks that enable flexible intra-provincial and inter-regional connectivity.

The strengthening of east-west traffic infrastructure is not only vital for improving internal connectivity within Hai Duong province but also of significant importance in the context of future provincial mergence.

One of the most anticipated projects currently underway is the renovation of provincial road 396’s extension connecting provincial road 391 to road 390.

This project has been eagerly welcomed by residents of Thanh Ha and Tu Ky districts. It plays a crucial role in completing the regional transportation network and forming a provincial beltway connecting Binh Giang, Thanh Mien, Ninh Giang, Tu Ky, and Thanh Ha districts.

Hai Duong province officially opened the technical phase of the east-west trunk-road to traffic on April 19. The event marks significant progress in the province’s traffic infrastructure development.

The 36.6-km road runs through Thanh Mien, Ninh Giang, and Tu Ky districts. Built to grade III standards for flat terrain, the road features a 12-m roadbed, an 11-m-wide road surface, and a designed speed of 80 km/h.

The route is connected to key arteries, including Ha Noi - Hai Phong expressway, the North-South trunk-road, national highways 10, 37, and 38B, and several provincial roads in Hai Duong and Hung Yen provinces.

The construction of an east-west axis is considered a key traffic project of Kim Thanh district for the 2021 - 2025 period. With a total length of nearly 15.74 km and an investment exceeding 844 billion VND, the project is divided into two phases. The first phase, 3.75 km long, was completed in June 2024. The second phase, spanning over 7.8 km, is under construction.

Once completed, the route is expected to boost socio-economic development across Hai Duong’s northwestern region.

A series of other projects are also underway to further reinforce east-west connectivity, including an axis linking Vu Cong Dan street in Hai Duong city to Ke Sat town in Binh Giang district.

This cluster includes four sub-projects, consisting of the construction of Vu Cong Dan street in Hai Duong city, a route connecting Vu Cong Dan street to Cay bridge in Cam Giang district), and Cay bridge and provincial road 394; and the upgrade of provincial road 395 along with an approach to Cay bridge in Binh Giang district.

At the same time, an interchange connecting provincial road 390 in Thanh Ha district with Ha Noi - Hai Phong expressway is under construction. Upon completion, it will significantly shorten travel times and ease traffic congestion on existing routes.

Of particular note, Hai Duong province is collaborating with Hai Phong city to study the construction of a route connecting the administrative centers of both localities.

The route is proposed to span approximately 23.5 km and meet high-speed roadway standards, forming the backbone of a future merged urban area. Upon completion, travel time between the two localities’ centers could be reduced to around 40 minutes by car.
