Nam Dong ward in Hai Duong city has renovated and expanded many residential roads, contributing to a more synchronized and accessible transportation network.
Strategic breakthrough
Years ago, main road within residential areas of Nam Dong ward were narrow and deteriorated, causing inconvenience for local residents. In response, the ward Party and People’s Committees identified investment in traffic infrastructure as a top priority.
Since 2022, the ward has been renovating and expanding roadways to widths of 6 - 8 m and paving three major trunk roads in Dong Ngo, Khanh Hoi, and Phu Luong residential areas. The combined length of these roads is nearly 1.5 km, with a total investment of approximately 17 billion VND, sourced from the local budget and other legal funding sources.
To date, two roads in Khanh Hoi and Phu Luong residential areas have been completed and put into use, totaling nearly 500 m in length. The road in Dong Ngo is currently under construction, with subgrade work completed and the road surface widened from just over 3 m to 8 m. The construction unit aims to finish this project by May 31.
Strong public support
During implementation, the ward People’s Committee directed specialized staff to closely coordinate with residential area leaders to raise public awareness and encourage community participation to accelerate site clearance and promptly resolve emerging issues.
“The ward People’s Committee actively supported and created favorable conditions for nearly 100 households voluntarily donating thousands of square meters of land to process related procedures for new land use right certificates,” said Vu Pham Thien, Chairman of the ward People’s Committee.
The ward’s Ben Bi hamlet consists of over 40 households with 146 residents. Its main road used to be just about 2 m wide and severely degraded, especially problematic during rainy weather due to frequent waterlogging. In response, local authorities actively mobilized the residents to jointly improve and expand the road.
In 2023, the households voluntarily contributed 1 million VND per person, even more if possible. Residents living along the road also willingly donated land.
Thanks to this collective determination and effort, the main road, over 300 m in length, was expanded from 2 m to over 3 m in 2024. Additionally, with government approval, Ben Bi residents voluntarily donated funds to fill a stagnant pond and create a shared playground.
Nam Dong ward has been improving many roads within residential areas, enhancing connectivity and convenience for local travel and commerce, significantly contributing to effective implementation of Hai Duong city’s urban revitalization program and promotion of the local socio-economic development.
