Japanese experts and leaders of the Hai Duong Department of Agriculture and Rural Development visit and survey a lychee region in Thanh Son commune

Experts from Japan’s AEON Group visited and surveyed a lychee region in Thanh Son commune, Thanh Ha district, Hai Duong province, on June 1.

Lychees there are cultivated in compliance with VietGAP and GlobalGAP by 35 members of Ameii Vietnam Cooperative for export to Japan.

The Japanese experts hailed the lychee production process of local people.

They were impressed with the vast growing region, covering an area of about 17 ha, and the deliciousness of lychees.

After the survey, the Japanese group will plan to take lots of Hai Duong lychees to the hands of Japanese people and help everyone know and try this fruit, according to the group’s representative Koji Tanihara.

In the immediate future, the delegation will conduct a survey and take Thanh Ha lychees into AEON malls across Vietnam through Red Dragon Co., Ltd., said Koji.

This is also one of activities to mark the 50th founding anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Vietnam.

Quality-guaranteed Thanh Ha lychees have been favored by the Japanese market for years

Hai Duong lychees have been popular in Japan since the first time they were brought to the country in 2020, said Yuchiro Shiotani, Director-general of AEON Topvalu Vietnam Co., Ltd.

AEON Group has many supermarkets in Japan, which are expected to sell about 50 tons of lychees or more, Yuchiro said.

Although some other countries also have lychees for export, AEON Group still gives priority to Vietnamese ones, Yuchiro added.

Red Dragon Co., Ltd., which together with the Hai Duong Department of Agriculture and Rural Development accompanied the delegation to Thanh Ha, has purchased and exported Thanh Ha lychees for 15 years.

The company is expected to export 300 tons of Thanh Ha lychees to Japan, Australia, the US, etc. this year.

The first 15 tons of Thanh Ha lychees will be shipped to the US on June 2, according to the company’s director Mai Xuan Thin.

The next batch is being irradiated in Ha Noi and will be shipped to Australia soon after, Thin said.
