Farmers in Thanh Ha district, Hai Duong province are joyfully harvesting early lychees. A cheerful and bustling harvest atmosphere is spreading across the district’s Ha Dong region.
Fruitful season
Orchards across Thanh Quang, Vinh Cuong, and Thanh Hong communes of Ha Dong region are covered in bright red color of plump lychees, signaling a bumper crop.
Early lychees in Thanh Ha started to be harvested over a week ago and are now in peak season. This year, extended cold weather led to stronger market demand compared to previous years. As a result, lychee prices are high and stable.
As a regional specialty, lychees attract traders to the orchards every season, bringing excitement to local farmers.
Compared to last year, lychee prices this season are more stable and trending slightly higher due to strong market demand. Many households signed purchasing contracts early in the season with enterprises, ensuring a secure market.
At this time, the number of trucks arriving in Thanh Ha to buy lychees is increasing, especially from the neighboring city of Hai Phong.
Strong consumption
In addition to higher yield and improved quality, early lychee growers in Thanh Ha have also made notable strides in production and selling mindset.
Local farmers now collaborate with cooperatives to produce lychees for export and supply to clean agricultural supermarkets.
Nguyen Van Khoa, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Quang commune, noted that residents have strictly followed standardized production processes for many years, which have now become habitual. As a result, lychees exported to demanding markets such as Australia, the US, and the EU meet high-quality standards.
According to Tran Xuan Thin, General Director of Red Dragon Co., Ltd. in Ho Chi Minh city, a company experienced in exporting Thanh Ha lychees, this year’s early-season crop is of excellent quality. His company has signed purchase agreements with a number of qualified cooperatives at prices 20% higher than the general market rate.
Thanh Ha has nearly 3,300 ha of lychees, including about 2,000 ha of early ones, concentrated in the Ha Dong region, according to the district People's Committee. This year, the district’s total lychee output is expected to reach 38,000 tons, with early lychees accounting for about 20,000 tons.
