By August 20, nearly all commercial enterprises and about 30% of more than 30,000 retailers in Hai Duong had applied technology to business, an increase of 27% year on year.

E-payment is gradually forming a smart shopping habit

There have been opportunities from the market and policies to develop the digital economy, so the most important thing is that enterprises should take advantage of them, innovate production processes, and promote the application of digital technology to traditional economic fields.

For nearly half a year, Nguyen Thi Trai’s dried food business in Hai Tan market, Hai Duong city, has become much busier. Trai’s six stalls in the market bring an average revenue of nearly 3 million VND/day, up close to 500,000 VND over the time before e-payment application.

“Since a QR code was applied at my shop for payment via bank account and Viettel Money application, the number of young customers has sharply increased thanks to convenient payment. Revenue from this channel accounts for about 15%,” said Trai.

Online sales make up more than 35% of the total production of Mely JSC., an instant food producer and trader.

According to preliminary statistics of the Department of Industry and Trade, by August 20, nearly 100% of more than 2,000 commercial enterprises and about 30% of more than 30,000 retailers had applied technology to business, an increase of 27% year on year.

The speed of technology and e-commerce application of enterprises and business establishments has averagely grown by 19% over the past years.

“The technological content in traditional economic fields in production, wholesale, and retail is gradually increasing. This is a positive sign contributing to shaping the province's smart economy in the coming time,” said Nguyen Van Quang, Head of the Trade Management Division under the Department of Industry and Trade.

To provide businesses with useful digital tools, VNPT Hai Duong has offered enterprises many solutions with the highlight being the implementation of the oneSME online digital product trading platform.

However, there remains a large gap compared to the province's goal of striving for the digital economy to account for 20% of the gross regional domestic product (GRDP).
According to the provincial Statistics Office, the province's digital economy in 2020 accounted for 7% of the GRDP.

In 2021, the global supply chain was broken because of the Covid-19 pandemic, resulting in a slight decrease in the share of the digital economy to 6.8% in the province's GRDP.

With strong recovery of the business community, the digital economy is estimated to account for 7.4% of the GRDP by the end of 2022.
