Technical initiatives save businesses’ production materials

The use of calcined dolomite instead of raw one benefits Hoa Phat Hai Duong Steel JSC. more than 18 billion VND each year

Hoa Phat Hai Duong Steel JSC. is the leader in applying the basic oxygen process to steel production.

The use of calcined dolomite instead of raw one in the blast furnace slag mix is one of the initiatives that bring about high efficiency for this company.

It requires a greater amount of scrap but a smaller one of liquid cast iron as raw materials, together with the adjustment of other ancillary stages saving more than 18 billion VND for the enterprise each year.

Vicem Hoang Thach Cement One Member Co., Ltd. in Kinh Mon provincial town always cares about investment in studies that reduce input materials, including the use of artificial gypsum in cement production.

Natural gypsum has to be imported from a number of countries such as Thailand and Laos as it is unavailable in Vietnam.

Due to higher and higher import prices, the company has replaced 60 – 70% of natural gypsum with artificial one, contributing to reducing production costs by 3 – 4 billion VND/year.

The firm used some 165,000 tons of artificial gypsum in the first six months of 2023 and is expected to save about 4.5 billion VND by the end of the year.

RedstarCera JSC. uses waste as raw materials for production

RedstarCera JSC. in Chi Linh city has also applied a lot of studies and initiatives to production to reduce input materials.

The firm started replacing part of materials with the residue of grinding and finishing stages in 2020 after many failed attempts.

“This solution helps our company save 100 – 300 tons of input materials each month,” said Nguyen Van Thang, assistant of the enterprise’s director-general.

Hai Duong Water JSC. has applied a lot of initiatives to improve productivity and cut costs since 2022, according to deputy director-general of the company Nguyen Thanh Son.

Notably, the design and building of a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system at station I of Cam Thuong Water Production Branch in Hai Duong city provides an appropriate operating process which ensures the pressure and flow in accordance with the capacity of the pipeline, limits break points caused by overload, and optimizes the production process.

The initiative reduces power consumption from 0.3 to 0.25 kW/m3, benefiting the company more than 1 billion VND each year.

These initiatives not only help the enterprises save fuel and raw materials but also replace limited natural materials with waste-originated artificial ones in production, contributing to environmental protection towards sustainable development.

This is an inevitable direction of enterprises towards green production.
