Consistent with the goal "Flexible adaptation, breakthrough growth", Hai Duong's economy in the first nine months of 2022 quickly recovered with many clear marks after effective Covid-19 control and a growth rate of more than 10%, the highest in the past five years and in the fairly high group of the country.

Industrial and service highlights

Dinh Trinh Dung, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Director-general of Hai Duong Garment JSC. No. 2, said in the past nine months, the enterprise's growth was regained and even higher than the time before the epidemic.

The company's export activities not only recovered but also expanded with the number of orders increasing by about 5%.

Similar to Hai Duong Garment JSC. No. 2, businesses in the province resumed stable operation thanks to good control of the epidemic in the past time, influencing the growth rate of the whole industry.

According to the provincial Statistics Office, in the first nine months of 2022, Hai Duong's industrial production index rose by 13.6% compared to the same period. In which, processing and manufacturing gained the upper hand with the highest increase, 14.4%, and electricity production and distribution posted a rise of 9%.

In the group of processing and manufacturing industries, the production of electronic components, electrical equipment, motor vehicles, garments, and textiles played an important role in promoting the provincial industrial development with high growth rates, 13 – 20%.

Commercial and service activities quickly recovered. The total production value of the service sector in the first nine months of 2022 was estimated at nearly 34,000 billion VND, up 8.8% year on year.

The total retail sales and service revenue was estimated at close to 63,000 billion VND, an increase of 12.8%.

The value of exports and imports amounted to nearly 8.3 billion USD and more than 6.6 billion USD, up 15.1% and 16.3%, respectively.

The most prominent thing in the economic picture of Hai Duong in the past nine months was the reopening of service activities after more than two years of stoppage because of the epidemic.

In the first nine months, the province welcomed and served nearly 700,000 tourists, including 23,300 international arrivals. Revenue was estimated at close to 317 billion VND, nearly 29 times higher than the same period last year.

Stable agriculture

The fishery sector stably and effectively develops

The past nine months also recorded high growth of the provincial agricultural production with innovations in production and consumption and an estimated value of 15,600 billion VND, a rise of 3.5%.

Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Luong Thi Kiem assessed that the growth rates of agricultural fields were stable and equal.

In the field of farming, despite a decrease of nearly 1,000 ha in the area of spring and autumn rice cultivation for crop restructuring and non-agricultural activities, productivity remained fairly high with an average of more than 63 quintals/ha.

The area of perennial crops in the province was zoned for specialized and concentrated cultivation to heighten productivity and quality.

Lychee was the key fruit tree with an increase of nearly 6,100 tons in output though its area fell by 17 ha. Some other fruit trees like banana, guava, and dragon fruit also recorded higher yields, significantly contributing to the production value of farming in the province.

Livestock and poultry flocks in the province stably developed. By October 1, there were an estimated 392,000 pigs and 46,200 tons of pork, up 7.3% and 9.9% year on year, respectively.

The number of buffaloes and cows and meat output also increased. The total poultry was estimated at nearly 16 million, an increase of 4.9%.

The first nine months of the year recorded positive changes in fishery as people raised many new varieties, ensuring quality and suitable to the province's surface water conditions.

Although the exploitation output dropped by 6.5% to just over 1,100 tons, aquaculture made up for this shortfall. The province's total aquaculture production in nine months exceeded 71,300 tons, up 6.5%.

Despite many positive changes, difficulties, challenges, and complicated and unpredictable fluctuations of epidemics, weather, and prices of some materials made a significant impact on the provincial socio-economic development.

Breeders hesitated to raise new flocks, and the expansion of the cultivation area was limited. The commercial infrastructure system failed to meet requirements, and difficulties of enterprises wishing to hire land for production and business were slowly handled.

Due to disadvantages of the current market, the provincial Statistics Office predicted that the province would achieve a growth rate of only 9.7 – 10% this year. Therefore, in the last three months of the year, the whole province must strive to make a breakthrough and fulfill the growth target of 10% or more for 2022.
