The Hai Duong Newspaper took one consolation prize of the 17th National Press Awards with the group of works “Bit lo hong chinh sach dat dai” (Closing gaps in land policies) by journalist Pham Sy Thang.

The awarding ceremony was solemnly held at the Viet Xo Friendship Labor-Culture Palace in Ha Noi on the night of June 21, the 98th Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day.

Thang’s works pointed out that many provisions in the revised 2013 Land Law are no longer relevant after 10 years of enforcement.

Notably, loose planning, planning management, and land use plans led to a lot of suspended planning projects. People in planned areas could neither leave nor stay.

The delay in project implementation resulted in the abandonment of several residential and urban areas for years, causing waste of resources and loss of the State’s tax revenue.

The Hai Duong Newspaper was one of the first press agencies in the country to report on this issue, before the National Assembly brought up the draft revised Land Law for discussion in October 2022.

After publication, leaders of the province directed specialized agencies to review the issues mentioned in the newspaper, work out remedies, and offer suggestions to the draft revised Land Law.

Tieu Ha Kien, another journalist from the Hai Duong Newspaper, qualified for the final round of the 17th National Press Awards with the work “Bank Land: Khat vong tien ty hay rui ro mat trang?” (Bank Land: A thirst for billions of dong or a risk of losing everything?).

Kien and his colleagues Nguyen Mo and Thanh Chung secured a consolation prize of last year’s Awards for the work “Hai Duong chuyen doi so trong nong nghiep: Vuot thach thuc – Tang toc vuon xa” (Digital transformation in Hai Duong agriculture: Overcoming challenges – Speeding up to go further).

There were 1,894 entries for the 17th National Press Awards, the highest ever. Eight A, 24 B, 46 C, and 45 consolation prizes were granted, which had been selected from 157 entries entering the final round.
