The departure of the first international freight train from Hai Duong will promote import and export with foreign markets.
The People’s Committee of Hai Duong province and Vietnam Railway Corporation jointly launched the first international freight train from Cao Xa station in Cam Giang district on May 2 morning.
The train, consisting of 12 containers carrying sulfur, aluminum, and milk from factories in Hai Duong and Hung Yen provinces and Hai Phong city, departed at 8.50 am. It will connect with other international intermodal trains at Yen Vien station for export to China.
Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Trieu The Hung said Cao Xa station was upgraded to an international intermodal one to better serve import-export activities of Hai Duong and neighboring localities.
The departure of the first international freight train marked an advance of the provincial railway sector and opened up opportunities for businesses in Hai Duong and neighboring localities with transport activities to all provinces and cities across Vietnam, according to Hung.
“Especially, it will promote import and export with foreign markets such as China and Eastern European countries with practical benefits in terms of shipping costs and time, safety, and smoothness during the circulation of goods,” the chairman said.
Cao Xa station is located on Ha Noi – Hai Phong rail route, about 5 km from Hai Duong city center and 2 km from Tien Kieu port, and connected to provincial roads and national highways to localities inside and outside the province.
Near the station are major industrial parks of Hai Duong (within 30 km), such as Dai An, Cam Dien, Phuc Dien, Tan Truong, Phu Thai, and Lai Vu.
There are two routes from Cao Xa station: Cao Xa - Yen Vien - Dong Dang and Cao Xa - Yen Vien - Lao Cai. From here, import and export goods of businesses will be directly connected to railways in China and countries on the Asia-Europe railway transport route.
