Vinh Hoa commune in Ninh Giang district has had seven products classified under the “One Commune One Product (OCOP)” program, the most in Hai Duong province.

Vinh Hoa early lychee trees are fruiting, promising a high yield

Vinh Hoa early lychees have long been popular for big fruit, red skin, and succulent pulp.

There are 55 ha of early lychee in the commune, including 10 ha cultivated according to Vietnamese Good Agricultural Practices (VietGAP) by 25 households.

Nguyen The Tham in the commune’s Ngoc Hoa hamlet switched from main-crop lychee to early one in 2005 for high economic value.

He sells early lychees at high prices every season, with an average profit of more than 200 million VND.

Tham is excited since 120 early lychee trees in his garden are equally yielding plenty of fruit.

“It is not easy to take care of early lychees despite their high price, around 25,000 – 30,000 VND/ kg,” said Tham.

“I often have to improve my knowledge and overcome unusual weather phenomena to make the trees evenly bear fruit every year.

“This year, I follow OCOP standards, which are even more stringent.”

Vinh Hoa early lychees of Vinh Hoa Agricultural Service Cooperative were granted a 4-star OCOP certificate last December.

The commune focused on propaganda and instruction of lychee growers on VietGAP application and OCOP registration, resulting in better and better quality and smoother selling of Vinh Hoa early lychees.

Hung Son Agricultural Products and Foodstuffs Processing and Exporting Enterprise has six OCOP products

Hung Son Agricultural Products and Foodstuffs Processing and Exporting Enterprise in Vinh Hoa commune is the owner of six out of seven OCOP products in the commune, including pickled cucumbers, pickled tomatoes, sugared lychees, salted peppers…

These products are on sale in various localities at home and abroad.

The enterprise exported 3,000 – 4,000 tons of agricultural products in 2022, earning tens of billions of dong in profit.

The seven OCOP products are an impetus for local entities to develop production and business, create jobs for and improve the income of local workers, and spread the program further in the time to come, said Vice Chairman of the commune People's Committee Ha Van Ket.

“We have jointly trained farmers in OCOP products, offered them traceability stamps, supported them with brand improvement and product popularization…,” said Ket.

“OCOP development is an important direction of the commune to improve rural economy to contribute to helping Vinh Hoa achieve the model new-style rural standard this year.”
