Viettel is the first network operator to commercialize 5G service in Hai Duong province.
Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel for short) officially launched the high-speed 5G service with a variety of data options in Hai Duong province on October 15 morning along with all branches nationwide.
Subscriptions for postpaid subscribers, priced at 200,000 - 2 million VND/ month, offer 6 - 50 GB of daily high-speed 5G data.
Viettel also offers data options for prepaid subscribers with the price ranging from 135,000 - 210,000 VND/ month, providing customers with 4 – 30 GB of high-speed 5G data each day.
In addition, users with 5G-enabled devices can subscribe to the service without changing their SIM cards.
Viettel has installed 6,500 base transceiver stations in all 63 provinces and cities nationwide, with speeds of up to 1 GB/ second, 10 times faster than that of the current 4G service.
Vietnam was slow to introduce 2G, 3G, and 4G services, but the country has now caught up with the world in providing commercial 5G, according to Viettel Chairman and CEO Tao Duc Thang.
Vietnam is also one of the only five countries that can produce 5G equipment, Thang added.
Meanwhile, the roadmap for 5G commercialization of two other network providers VNPT and MobiFone is expected to begin this November.
