Vietnamese workers to have 4 days off for National Day

Employees who work on National Day holidays are entitled to at least 300 percent of their daily wage plus their salary on the day.

Public workers in Vietnam will enjoy four consecutive days off from September 1 to 4 for the National Day (September 2) holiday, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs has announced.

Laborers in the country are entitled to two days off for the National Day holiday.

However, National Day this year falls on Saturday, so public workers will be given an extra day off on Monday (September 4) to ensure they still have two work days off.

Public workers will thus have a four-day break from Friday (September 1) to Monday (September 4).

Agencies and organizations that do not implement a fixed work regime with two days off every weekend should rely on their specific operation plans to arrange a suitable holiday schedule, Minister of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung said.

Laborers who are not public officials and civil servants will be off on Saturday (September 2) and one preceding or following day.

Since 2021, Vietnam has mandated a total of 11 public holidays, including the two days off for the National Day holiday.

Employees who work on National Day holidays are entitled to at least 300 percent of their daily wage plus their salary on the day, equalling a minimum of 400 percent of their daily wage, according to the Labor Code.

If laborers work at night on National Day holidays, they will receive an additional 20 percent of their daily wage, besides the 400 percent of their salary.

Employers must get laborers’ agreement to arrange them to work on National Day.

Violators will face a fine of 10-20 million VND (424-849 USD) each.
