Vietnam Airlines, Vietnam’s national flag carrier, was named one of the world’s top 25 airlines for 2023 by Australia-based AirlineRatings.com, an aviation safety and product review group.

The carrier sits at number 20 in the rankings, above Turkish Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, KLM, Alaska Airlines, and United Airlines.

The first five positions on the list respectively went to Air New Zealand, Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways, Korean Air, and Singapore Airlines.

To prepare its annual round-up, AirlineRatings.com considered major safety and government audits, as well as looked at airline fleet age, passenger reviews, profitability, investment rating, product and services, and staff relations.

To make it to the top twenty-five, airlines must achieve a seven-star safety rating and demonstrate leadership in innovation for passenger comfort, according to AirlineRatings.com.

“We are focused on leadership and airlines that innovate to make a real difference to the passenger experience,” said editor-in-chief Geoffrey Thomas of AirlineRatings.com.

In 2022, Vietnam Airlines earned several international awards at the World Travel Awards, including the World's Leading Cultural Airline, Asia's Leading Airline - Economy Class, and Asia's Leading Airline Brand.

Domestically, the carrier’s air transport service was recognized as a national brand by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the National Brand Council last year.

Currently, Vietnam Airlines owns one of the youngest and most modern fleets in Asia, including Boeing 787-9/ 787-10 Dreamliners, Airbus A350-900 XWBs, and Airbus A321 Neos.

The average age of its fleet is seven years.

With more than 30 years of double-digit growth, except for during the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam Airlines has been a leader in the Vietnamese aviation market, one of the world’s fastest growing domestic markets.

Once the pandemic was brought under control in late 2021, Vietnam Airlines began its road to recovery by upgrading its products and services and restoring its domestic and international routes in order to meet increased passenger demand.

Regarding ground services, the carrier is the first airline in Vietnam to apply online check-in service across its entire domestic airport network.

In addition, the firm’s 'Meet and Greet' service provides passengers with a fast-track through all the airport formalities when departure, smooth transfers between flights, and arrival at their destinations with speed and ease, according to its website.

This special service is now offered to passengers departing, transferring, or arriving at the Noi Bai, Da Nang and Tan Son Nhat international airports in Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh city, respectively.

With its ongoing improvement efforts, Vietnam Airlines is striving to become a leading five-star international airline in Asia.
