Director of the provincial Statistics Office Pham Ba Dung announces Hai Duong’s socio-economic data in the first half of 2023

Hai Duong's economic growth rate reached 7.23% in the first half of 2023, ranking 15th in the country and 7th in the Red River Delta, said Director of the provincial Statistics Office Pham Ba Dung.

Dung was speaking at a press conference held on June 28 by the provincial Statistics Office to announce Hai Duong’s socio-economic data in the first six months of the year.

Accordingly, agro-forestry-fishery production posted an increase of 1.79%; industry, 9.19%; construction, 5.88%; services, 6.09%; and product tax, 8.37%.

The province’s growth rate in the first quarter reached 8.02% thanks to the high rise in industrial production and active services after Covid-19 outbreaks.

The rate slightly fell to 6.52% in the second quarter because of lower market demand and signs of global economic recession.

Industrial production index during the reviewed period rose by 9% year on year.

Food processing, motor vehicle manufacturing, and electricity production and distribution saw high rises, making large contributions to the overall index of the sector.

Trade and services enjoyed a fairly high increase despite a tendency to slow down because the difficult economic situation affected purchasing power.

The total revenue from retail sales and services was estimated at over 45,100 billion VND, up 16.5% over the same period last year.

A decline in world market demand influenced Hai Duong’s imports and exports.

The province’s export value in the first half of the year stood at over 4.4 billion USD and import revenue at nearly 3.7 billion USD, down 14.2% and 15.9% compared to the corresponding period last year, respectively.

Agricultural production was smooth in the first months of the year, with some fruit trees recording surges, like mango with a yield of 18,500 tons, up 1,500 tons, and banana, 34,600 tons, up more than 1,600 tons.

Poultry and cattle breeding was stable with about 16 million heads, an increase of 3.8%.

Aquaculture developed with an estimated output of more than 51,000 tons, a rise of 7.1% year on year.
