Hai Duong holds first large-scale international trade promotion conference

The People's Committee of Hai Duong province, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development co-organized a conference promoting sustainable trade for Thanh Ha lychee and specialty agricultural products of Hai Duong in 2021 on May 18 morning at Xu Dong Cultural Center in Hai Duong city.

The conference was held directly and connected online with 36 main terminals and nearly 30 domestic and foreign auxiliary ones.

This is the first trade promotion program to have been organized by the provincial authorities in both in-person and online formats on an international scale.

Speaking at the conference, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan and Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai highly appreciated active and effective coordination between the provincial People's Committee and ministries, agencies, and domestic and international organizations to hold the conference.

Compared with other provinces which had organized online trade promotion conferences, the one in Hai Duong had the largest scale with the participation of the most countries and businesses.

They affirmed that Thanh Ha's thieu lychee in particular and Hai Duong's agricultural products in general were strongly pervasive with high competitiveness in domestic and international markets.

In the context of many difficulties and challenges caused by the Covid-19 epidemic, Hai Duong was highly determined and turned difficulties into opportunities. The province organized trade promotion in accordance with the actual situation and the trend of the 4.0 era.

The conference is connected online with five domestic terminals and 31 others in 12 countries, and nearly 300 foreign importers trade online with Vietnamese businesses

The officials asserted that they would continue to accompany and assist Hai Duong in connecting trade and expanding consumption markets of Thanh Ha's thieu lychee and Hai Duong's agricultural products.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan suggested that in the coming time, Hai Duong orient agricultural development towards growth from width to depth, work out measures to integrate multiple values in developing brand names for agricultural products, and pay attention to processing to avoid seasonal risks and product diversification to suit consumers' tastes.

From the online terminals, delegates shared information, the situation of trade connection and promotion between Vietnam and other countries, the situation of cooperation and sale of agricultural products between Hai Duong and enterprises, experience in preserving and deeply processing agricultural products, etc.

Delegates pressed the buttons to start the program of putting lychee and other agricultural products of Hai Duong on e-commerce platforms. This activity was part of a cooperation program between the Trade Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade and such e-commerce platforms as Alibaba, Lazada, Sendo, and Tiki.

Shortly after the program starting, representatives of four e-commerce platforms, namely Sendo.vn, Voso.vn, Postmart.vn, and Lazada.vn, signed a cooperation agreement with four units producing and purchasing lychee and other agricultural products of Hai Duong.

Leaders of the joint stock companies of Ameii Vietnam, Bamboo International, and Hung Viet Agricultural signed a memorandum of understanding on coordination in producing and selling thieu lychee and key agricultural products of the province.

Addressing the conference, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Pham Xuan Thang and Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Duong Thai affirmed that the conference was a very important event for the development of the province.

Hai Duong always attaches special importance to promoting trade and product consumption. In the context of complicated developments of Covid-19 in the world and Vietnam, domestic consumption and export of agricultural products are big challenges. Hai Duong will continue to effectively restructure agriculture towards added value heightening and sustainable development; apply high technology, digital transformation, and standard cultivation methods for concentrated and large-scale production of goods with good productivity and quality bringing about high economic efficiency; etc.

On the morning of the same day, the provincial People's Committee organized a garden opening ceremony in Thanh Lanh hamlet, Thanh Quang commune, Thanh Ha district, to pick and export lychee to Japan, the US, Australia, Singapore, Europe, etc. in 2021. The event attracted reporters from many press and media agencies coming to attend and report.

At present, there are more than 9,000 ha of thieu lychee in Hai Duong, including over 3,300 ha in Thanh Ha district and more than 3,500 ha in Chi Linh city, with a total output of about 55,000 tons this year.

The province has 45 lychee regions with 450 ha cultivated under GlobalGAP standard and 6,300 ha under VietGAP standard.

To date, 1,000 ha have been certified VietGAP and GlobalGAP, and 8,000 ha have been given export cultivation area codes.
