“Coming here to help people overcome the epidemic and contribute youth to the fight against Covid-19 is my wish,” said Vu Trung Anh (born in 1998) in Ngoc Lac hamlet, Ngoc Son commune, Hai Duong city.

Trung Anh has worked in a concentrated quarantine area at Hai Duong University for more than three months. There, resting and working time is not clearly demarcated. Whether it is night or day, Anh is awake or asleep, he is always ready for any situation to support those coming for quarantine. Just hearing the ambulance siren, the whole team knows F1 cases are coming and hurriedly wears protective clothes to do their duties.

Trung Anh’s main jobs are receiving and distributing food to each room, receiving and delivering supplies from outside to isolated people, assisting security and order maintenance, and cleaning.

Except when going to bed, he wears protective clothes most of the time. However, the small guy always feels happy for what he has done.

During the three months of volunteering in the area, he interacted with many people and situations. Some elderly people and small children left him with a lot of emotions. Among them, a forgetful old man in his 80s often went out of his isolation room since he did not know where he was. After many observations, Trung Anh, in a protective suit, patiently talked to, explained, and took him back to his room.

Born not as healthy as many others, Trung Anh used to suffer from hypocalcemia and low blood pressure plus shyness and even depression sometimes. When he returned from military service earlier this year, his family recommended him to open his heart and take part in some volunteer activities to get along with everyone.

His application for participation in manning epidemic checkpoints was sent to the Youth Union of Ngoc Son commune, and then to the Youth Union of Hai Duong city.

At first, he was chosen to be a volunteer on duty at an epidemic checkpoint. Because of prolonged hot weather and his weakness, the Youth Union of Hai Duong city once withdrew him from the list.

After that, he wrote another application for working in a concentrated quarantine area. Since then, he has become more open-minded, sociable, and very flexible in communication.

This is not only a useful experience but also an opportunity for him to remove his persistent “bottleneck”.

Though sometimes he is tired and has to try a lot to accomplish the tasks, thanks to everyone’s encouragement and expectations of people in the quarantine area, he has overcome all difficulties, surpassed himself, and, moreover, understood that “giving is forever.”

“Here, I have learnt a lot about sharing, solidarity, and mutual support. I found life more beautiful after joining in this volunteer work," said Trung Anh.

Though the day the peaceful life returns remains unknown, Trung Anh is determined to stay there to take care of F1 cases until Covid-19 is driven back.
