The 2023 Quy Mao Tet (Lunar New Year) is approaching. In recent years, people have tended to prioritize the use of Vietnamese goods, especially during the traditional Tet of the nation.

Vietnamese goods account for more than 90% of commodities at Big C supermarket

Vietnamese goods have conquered consumers from urban to rural areas by both quality and price. This is also an achievement after 13 years of implementing the campaign “Vietnamese people give priority to using Vietnamese goods,” contributing to changing consumption behavior, prioritizing the use of domestically-produced goods, and taking Vietnamese goods into supermarkets and markets in urban and rural areas.

At Big C supermarket in Hai Duong city, Vietnamese goods nearly cover all shelves, from foodstuff like confectionery and drinks to household articles, clothes, footwear, etc.

There are about 20,000 items at Big C supermarket, and about 70% of goods for Tet have so far been taken to the supermarket’s warehouse. Some raw food will be brought just before Tet.

Since September, representatives of the supermarket system have worked with suppliers and realized business plans and strategies for Tet occasion.

According to director Vu Thi Sen, more than 90% of goods at Big C supermarket are Vietnamese products.

Tet atmosphere has also filled the shelves of BRG Mart supermarket on Nguyen Luong Bang street, Hai Duong city. Though there remains more than a month before Tet, many people tend to shop for Tet early thanks to the control of Covid-19 pandemic.

According to director Nguyen Thi Minh Phuong, the supermarket welcomes about 1,000 customers on weekends, twice as high as on weekends of 1 – 2 months ago.

To serve this Tet, BRG Mart supermarket has nearly 20,000 items from about 500 suppliers. Every day, the supermarket receives 3 – 5 tons of goods for Tet. The amount of Tet goods is estimated to surge by 30 – 40% compared to last Tet.

There is a growing tendency of prioritizing Vietnamese products among consumers, forming a habit of using Vietnamese products during Vietnamese Tet

Vietnamese goods are increasingly favored by consumers thanks to their clear origins and diverse types, designs, and segments.

Since the implementation of the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program, OCOP products of businesses, cooperatives, and production facilities in the province have received more and more attention and trust from consumers. OCOP products are on sale at supermarkets, convenience stores, and selling and introduction points of some businesses and cooperatives.

Nguyen Thi Huyen in Pham Ngu Lao ward, Hai Duong city, said: “In the past few years, I have always prioritized Vietnamese goods when shopping for Tet due to producers’ attachment of special importance to quality and design.

“In particular, they also quickly catch up with consumers’ tastes by releasing gift baskets with different trends and designs each year.”

The Department of Industry and Trade forecasts that the purchasing power on the 2023 Quy Mao Tet occasion will increase by 15 – 17% compared to the 2022 Nham Dan Tet.

People’s demand focuses on food, raw food, agricultural products, etc. It is expected that this Tet, people in the province will have a need to consume 5,000 – 6,000 tons of rice, 10,000 – 12,000 tons of vegetables, tubers, and fruits, 3,000 – 4,000 tons of meat, 800 – 1,000 tons of aquatic products, 700 – 800 tons of confectionery, 15,000 – 17,000 liters of drinks, etc.

Through capture from businesses and distributors, the total value of goods for the 2023 Quy Mao Tet at supermarkets, businesses, and large distributors in the province exceed 1,280 billion VND, up more than 280 billion VND compared to last Tet.
