[Video] Rowers win two first golds for Hai Duong delegation at National Games

10 Hai Duong rowers entered four rowing finals of the 9th National Games at the Thuy Nguyen Boat Racing Center in Hai Phong on November 21 morning.

In the men’s 2,000m quad sculls event, four rowers Nhu Dinh Nam, Bui Van Hoan, Tran Huy Tiep, and Nguyen Huu Thanh helped Hai Duong’s high-performance sports delegation win the first gold medal at the National Games.

In the event, the Hai Duong rowers excellently finished in 6 minutes 8 seconds. Ha Tinh team ranked second with a time of 6 minutes 13 seconds, followed by Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh city, Da Nang, and the host Hai Phong.

In the last final on November 21, Hai Duong rower Bui Van Hoan outstandingly finished first in the men's lightweight single scull event. Though falling behind in the early stages, the Kinh Mon-born rower crossed the finish line before rivals from Ha Noi, An Giang, Hung Yen, Ha Tinh, and Thanh Hoa to secure the second gold medal for Hai Duong’s high-performance sports delegation.

Thus, by this time, Bui Van Hoan has pocketed one individual gold and one men’s quad sculls gold.


Earlier, Hai Duong rower Nguyen Thi Giang grabbed one bronze medal in the women's 2,000m single scull final.

Rowers Vu Xuan Huy, Pham Xuan Truong, Trieu Hoang Long, and Nguyen Dinh Hieu were also bronze medalists in the men's lightweight coxless four event.

On the first day of competition, Hai Duong’s high-performance sports delegation snatched medals in all final matches, including two golds and two bronzes.

From now until the end of the tournament (November 23), the Hai Duong rowing team can absolutely win more medals in the remaining seven finals.
