Pham Hong Quan was the best athlete of Hai Duong province with five gold medals snatched from canoeing events.
Hai Duong rowers and canoeists brought home 27 gold, 12 silver, and 10 bronze medals from the Southeast Asian Rowing and Canoeing Sprint Senior, U23, U19, and Junior Championships, which ended in Hai Phong city late last week.
The provincial athletes took 15 golds, nine silvers, and eight bronzes from canoeing events for the national teams.
In particular, canoeist Pham Hong Quan pocketed five gold medals, including one C1, two C2, and two C4 ones, with exceptional performance.
Earlier, Hai Duong rowers secured 12 gold, three silver, and two bronze medals.
The medals of Hai Duong athletes contributed to Vietnam’s highest position in the medal tally with 58 golds, 53 silvers, and 33 bronzes, followed by Thailand and Singapore in the second and third places, respectively.
The Southeast Asian Rowing and Canoeing Sprint Senior, U23, U19 and Junior Championships attracted six delegations with nearly 200 rowers and canoeists from Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
