Vietnamese rowers secured two bronze medals on the second competition day of the 19th Asian Games (ASIAD) in China on Monday.

One of the two medals were grabbed by Hai Duong-born rower Nguyen Thi Giang and her teammates Bui Thi Thu Hien, Luong Thi Thao, and Pham Thi Thao in the women's quadruple sculls category at Fuyang Water Sports Centre.

They finished third with a time of 6 minutes 54.84 seconds.

The gold medal was claimed by the host country, China, with a time of 6:42.84, while Iran took silver with a time of 6:51.82.

On the men's side, the team consisting of Bui Van Hoang, Nguyen Van Ha, and Nguyen Van Hieu finished fifth with a time of 6:22.22. China won the gold medal with a time of 6:02.65, Uzbekistan secured the silver medal with a time of 6:04.64, and the Indian team received bronze after clocking in at 6:08.61.

Another bronze medal for Vietnam was earned in the women's eight event. The Vietnamese team of Dinh Thi Hao, Du Thi Bong, Ha Thi Vui, Ho Thi Ly, Le Thi Hien, Nguyen Lam Kieu Diem, Pham Thi Ngoc Anh and Tran Thi Kiet, performed exceptionally well to achieve a time of 6:48.21.

The gold medal in this category went to the Chinese team, finishing with a time of 6:33.61 and silver to Japan team with a time of 6:44.15.

On Sunday, the Vietnamese rowers also won a bronze medal in the women's coxless fours, marking the country's first medal at the 19th Asian Games. Notably, at the previous ASIAD 18 held five years ago, the rowing team were the first to secure a gold medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation.

In addition to rowing, Vietnamese sports also secured another bronze medal on Sunday in taekwondo, thanks to martial artist Tran Ho Duy in the men's individual poomsae. Duy's consecutive victories brought him to the semi-finals, but he was unable to overturn South Korea's Kang Wan-jin, resulting in him finishing thỉd.

Vietnam aims to win between two and five gold medals at the ASIAD 19, approaching the achievement of the ASIAD 18 in Indonesia in 2018, which remains the most successful ASIAD for Vietnamese sports to date, with gold medals in women's rowing, athletics, women's long jump, men's pencak silat, and women's 400m hurdles.
