Dam Chi Dung, a 6th grader of Marie Curie II Secondary and High School in Hai Duong city earned IELTS band 8 at the age of 11 right on his first try.
Dam Chi Dung got acquainted with English through cartoons and comics when he was only three years old.
Later, Dung had a lot of contact with foreign teachers at kindergarten. At the age of 4, he started to enjoy English and could communicate simply with foreign teachers.
In the middle of grade 1, Dung's parents hired a private English tutor for him. One year later, Dung achieved perfect scores for Cambridge Movers and Flyers certificates in grade 2.
Dung began studying to get an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) certificate in grade 4 by learning from teachers at school and many English centers in Hai Duong city and taking a lot of online IELTS tests.
Finally, Dung earned IELTS band 8 on his first try in August 2024.
“I was very happy when knowing that I got an IELTS band score of 8 because I proved my competence and repaid my parents' hard work,” said Dung.
To Dung, one needs passion, diligence, and specific study goals and plans for each day to learn English well.
“My next target in four years of secondary school is IELTS band 9. I hope that the good learning environment of Marie Curie II Secondary and High School will help me achieve this goal,” Dung added.
Dam Quang La, Dung's father, said he was very happy that all the hard work and goals were reciprocated. “My wife and I will continue to accompany our child to conquer new heights,” said La.
According to Nguyen Van Trong, Vice Principal of Marie Curie II Secondary and High School cum Dung's homeroom teacher, Dung is a diligent and well-behaved student. He is also quite modest, friendly, and sociable with his classmates.
Not only good at English, Dung also studies other subjects well and equally. From grade 1 to grade 5, he was an excellent student.
