11 rare monkeys at Nham Duong pagoda handed over to national park

The Kinh Mon Forest Ranger Division under the Hai Duong Forest Ranger Department coordinated with Animals Asia to hand over 11 rare monkeys at Nham Duong pagoda to Vu Quang national park in Ha Tinh province on September 6.

Those were among 25 monkeys of four species, Macaca leonine, Macaca arctoides, Macaca mulatta, and Macaca assamensis, raised for years at Nham Duong pagoda.

This is the second time monkeys at the pagoda have been taken to the national park.

Experts from Animals Asia will change the monkeys’ diet, cure their diseases (if any), have them vaccinated, etc. after transfer.

The monkeys will be quarantined and recovered within three weeks before release into the wild.

The 14 other monkeys were handed over last July 3. They have been released and survived quite well in the natural environment of Vu Quang national park.

Earlier, the Hai Duong city Forest Ranger Division under the provincial Forest Ranger Department and Vu Thi Thu Huong’s family in Vu Xa residential area, Ai Quoc ward, Hai Duong city, handed over an Asian black bear weighing more than 100 kg to the Vietnamese Center for Wildlife Conservation (Four Paws Viet) in Ninh Binh province on September 1.

The bear was kept by the family for more than 10 years.
