Vietnam has become the third fastest growing destination for European visitors in Asia, following Malaysia and Japan, according to a tally of accommodation searches on digital travel platform Agoda.
Vietnam witnessed a 66% increase in travel searches from European tourists in April compared to the same period of last year.
Malaysia topped the list with year-on-year growth of 89%, followed by Japan with 71%.
Vu Ngoc Lam, country director of Agoda, said this reflects Vietnam's growing allure, with an increasing number of European tourists choosing the nation as their summer holiday destination.
To compile the list, Agoda analyzed accommodation searches conducted on the website in April 2024. It compared the data against searches conducted in April 2023, specifically for check-in dates between July and August.
European countries with the highest number of searches for travel to Vietnam last month included France, Germany, the U.K., the Netherlands, and Spain.
European tourists' three most searched destinations in Vietnam were Ho Chi Minh city, Hoi An and Nha Trang, according to Agoda.
Vietnam welcomed 193,831 tourists from Europe last month, up 141.3% year-on-year, according to data from Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.
The country currently offers 45-day visa-free stay for visitors from seven European countries Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the U.K., Denmark, Sweden and Finland.
