Thousands of trees of nearly 100 species across the country have been recognized to be heritage ones.

The “Vietnam heritage tree” title was initiated by the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment in 2010.

To win the honor, trees must be at least 200 years old in the case of wild ones, and 100 years for the planted.

Moreover, the trees should be connected with historical and cultural characteristics of the area where they grow.

Those failing to meet the criteria but having special values to science, history, or culture will also earn the recognition.

Over the past 22 years, thousands of trees of nearly 100 species across the country have been recognized to be heritage ones.

Among them, there are 65 trees in Hai Duong, including 54 ironwood trees at Cao temple, Chi Linh city, six trees in Gia Loc district, three in Kim Thanh district, an ancestral lychee tree in Thuy Lam hamlet, Thanh Son commune, Thanh ha district, and a duoi (streblus asper) tree in Thanh Mien district.
