New lease of life in model countryside

Changes in rural appearance, increasing improvement of people’s material and spiritual lives, and a narrower gap between rural and urban areas are great strides in communes finishing model new-style rural building in Hai Duong province.

Beautiful large concrete roads, lighting, free WIFI at the hamlet’s cultural house, abundant exercise and sports equipment, etc. are for the needs of residents of Dot Ha hamlet, Nam Tan commune, Nam Sach district.

At the age of 66, Tran Xuan Men feels very lucky to see his hometown change day by day. “This countryside does not lack anything compared to a city. After just one phone call, services will be provided right to your home. People’s material and spiritual lives are getting more and more prosperous,” happily said Men.

Rows of high-rise buildings are close together, roads are large and beautiful… These changes in Dot Ha hamlet are understandable since per capita income there reaches 96 million VND/ year, much higher than the commune’s average.

The hamlet has also been chosen to pilot smart hamlet building by Nam Tan commune authorities.

Dot Ha is only one of many villages in Hai Duong that are putting on “new clothes”.

Defining improvement of people’s material and spiritual lives as the main goal of the new-style rural building program, Nam Tan commune authorities have focused on directing agricultural restructuring, reorganization of production in a modern direction, and active application of new science and technology to production.

The above models contributed to enhancing people’s living standards. Per capita income rose from 70.4 million VND in 2019 to 72.6 million VND in 2022.

Apart from the model of raising fish in cages in rivers, Nam Tan also has many models that bring high economic efficiency and catch up with the trend of green agriculture.

Sao Mai Mushroom Cooperative Group is a typical example. Its mushroom farm covers an area of 6,000 m2 with an output of nearly 2 tons/ month. Mushroom is sold to clean food stores in Ha Noi city for 100,000 VND/ kg, bringing about a profit of around 100 million VND/ month. This is also an OCOP product of the locality.

In recent years, besides investment in rural infrastructure, localities have also paid attention to agricultural restructuring. Many agricultural production models suitable to local characteristics have been applied and continuously replicated, such as models of clean agricultural production, smart agriculture, and value chain agriculture.

Economy in localities has also changed in the direction of increasing the proportion of industry and services and decreasing the proportion of agriculture together with rural labor restructuring.

In which, focus is on developing handicraft, industrial, and service establishments, thereby creating many jobs on the spot, improving people’s material and spiritual lives, contributing to lowering the poverty rate, and especially, reducing migration from rural to urban areas.

Hai Duong soon completed the task of new-style rural building. In the new period, though the number and difficulty level of criteria in building advanced and model new-style rural areas increased compared to the previous period, thanks to the entire political system’s participation and people’s joint efforts, there have been new strides in the province’s new-style rural building program.

The province is expected to have 10 more model new-style rural communes this year, bringing the total number of model new-style rural communes to 14.
