Vietnam is the only Asia-Pacific country listed in Booking.com's "Mindful Voyagers" group, which is hailed as being responsible toward the environment and having a desire to support local communities.
The list was released by the Dutch online travel agency in the 2023 edition of APAC Travel Confidence Index, based on a survey of 8,000 respondents in 11 countries and territories in the region.
"Vietnamese tourists have the highest interest in sustainable tourism in the region," it said.
For a long time, Vietnamese tourists have had a reputation for littering and exhausting tourism resources.
But the Booking.com report shows more and more Vietnamese tourists are keen on sustainability post-pandemic and ready to pay for sustainable options.
Despite economic headwinds, 83% of Vietnamese respondents plan to travel in the next 12 months.
Their top concerns this year are the financial situation, health risks and potential travel disruptions.
