Home Affairs Ministry backs 5-day break plan for upcoming holiday

The Ministry of Home Affairs said on Friday that it endorsed the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs’ proposal, according to which public workers in Vietnam will be given five consecutive days off to celebrate the upcoming Reunification Day (April 30) and International Workers’ Day (May 1).

As the Reunification Day and International Workers’ Day fall on Tuesday and Wednesday this year, the Ministry of Home Affairs agreed that public workers should be allowed to be off from work on Monday (April 29) and work on another instead, so that they can enjoy five straight days off from Saturday till Wednesday, or from April 27 to May 1.

The five-day break is expected to boost consumption, promote local tourism and economic growth, according to the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs.

The Ministry of Home Affairs urged the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs to submit the proposal to the Prime Minister for consideration and approval.

The Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs is now pooling inputs from 14 other ministries and agencies on the proposal.
