Hai Duong-Kagoshima eye stronger cooperation

Hai Duong always cherishes its twinning relationship with Japan’s Kagoshima prefecture, said Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Tran Duc Thang.

Thang was speaking at a reception of Hai Duong leaders for a delegation of Kagoshima prefecture, led by its Governor Shiota Koichi, on July 11.

The secretary of the provincial Party Committee related the signing of a memorandum of understanding to establish the twinning relationship between Hai Duong and Kagoshima in October 2019, which opened up cooperation opportunities in various fields between the two localities.

Two-side activities have been maintained ever since despite interruptions in the past two years because of the Covid-19 pandemic, Thang said.

He expected stronger and more substantial partnership between the two localities as well as the two countries after the delegation’s visit as a foundation for further cooperation for mutual development.

Japan is one of the biggest investors in Hai Duong with the second largest number of projects and investment among countries and territories investing in the province, Thang said.

He suggested the Kagoshima governor encourage local businesses to invest more in Hai Duong, particularly in areas where the prefecture has strengths, as the province has many favorable conditions in terms of geography, traffic, population, etc. and preferential policies for foreign investors.

“Hai Duong will create the best conditions for businesses to invest and achieve success in the province,” said Thang.

The provincial Party chief also expected further cooperation with Kagoshima in other fields, such as training and internship of students and laborers in Kagoshima and recruitment of Hai Duong workers to industries that require high intelligence in the prefecture.

Secretary Thang believed that the sending of local workers to Kagoshima would improve their skills, thereby forming elite human resources to contribute to the development of Hai Duong province in the future and to make up for the labor shortage of Kagoshima prefecture.

“A mission of Hai Duong province will visit Kagoshima prefecture this October to promote cooperation between the two localities,” Thang added.

Kagoshima Governor Shiota Koichi, for his part, thanked the warm and solemn welcome of Hai Duong leaders for his delegation.

Shiota expressed his delight to visit Hai Duong on the occasion of the 50th founding anniversary of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic relations.

The governor agreed to the proposals of Hai Duong side, hoping that the province would send skilled workers to the prefecture and create conditions for the two sides to exchange information, thereby strengthening the twinning relationship.

He praised Hai Duong’s good growth rate and believed that mutual cooperation would bring about good results.

President of the Kagoshima Trade and Industry Agency Mori Yoshihisa proposed export of useful agricultural tailings in Hai Duong to Kagoshima as animal feed.

He also decided to immediately recruit highly qualified laborers and apprentices in Hai Duong for his business and expected to be introduced good workers.

At the meeting, the two sides' delegates also discussed and proposed extensive cooperation issues based on the actual situation of each locality.

Hai Duong leaders pledged to assign appropriate authorities to cooperate and exchange detailed contents with the Kagoshima delegation after the meeting.

Kagoshima prefecture is located in the southwestern part of Kyushu (Japan), consisting of a series of islands with more than 2,643 km of coastlines, eight airports, and two main seaports.

It is also home to many industrial parks producing semiconductors, electronics, cars, and agricultural food and is the leading producer of dried tuna in Japan.
