By June 15, Hai Duong province had finished eliminating makeshift and dilapidated houses for families entitled to social welfare policies, according to the Department of Construction.

The province achieved this milestone five days earlier than its own target and 2.5 months ahead of the Government’s deadline.

The program to eliminate makeshift and dilapidated houses in Hai Duong, including both construction and repair, was launched in October 2024, covering 1,452 policy beneficiary households.

Among them, there were 855 families of revolutionary contributors and relatives of martyrs (318 newly built and 536 repaired houses), and 598 poor and near-poor households (373 newly built and 225 repaired houses).

The total funding for the program reached nearly 327.2 billion VND. Of this, over 28 billion VND was allocated from the Central government (temporarily covered by the provincial budget), more than 79 billion VND came from the provincial budget and “Gratitude” and “For the Poor” funds, and about 220 billion VND was mobilized from families and other support sources.

For newly built homes, the average construction cost was 560 million VND per house for families of revolutionary contributors and martyrs' relatives, 275 million VND per house for near-poor households, and 210 million VND per house for poor ones. For home repairs, costs ranged from 75 - 80 million VND per house.

Hai Duong completed the program earlier than the deadline set by the Prime Minister and ahead of its upcoming merger with Hai Phong city.
