Preparation underway for nearly 1,500 billion VND Dutch technology wastewater treatment project in Hai Duong

A project to construct a wastewater collection and treatment system will be implemented in five urban areas of Hai Duong province.

Standing Vice Chairman of the Hai Duong provincial People’s Committee Luu Van Ban presided over a meeting with a delegation from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Vietnam on May 26 regarding the construction of a wastewater collection and treatment system in central Chi Linh city, Kinh Mon town, and the districts of Gia Loc, Cam Giang, and Nam Sach of the province.

The visiting delegation included Willem Timmerman, First Secretary for Water and Climate at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Vietnam; Mai Linh Scholten, Investment Manager of the Public Investment Program at Invest International; and Pham Minh Uyen, Senior Policy Advisor at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Vietnam.

Hai Duong has developed a detailed plan and roadmap for the project implementation

The project is included in the province’s public investment plan for the 2021–2025 period and will continue into the 2026–2030 phase, with funding already allocated. The provincial People’s Committee has also assigned the provincial Project Management Board to be responsible for the project implementation.

The wastewater collection and treatment system will be built in five urban areas, namely Chi Linh city (5 wards), Kinh Mon town (7 wards), Gia Loc township in Gia Loc district, Lai Cach township in Cam Giang district, and Nam Sach township in Nam Sach district.

The scope of work includes the construction of approximately 166 km of sewer pipelines, nearly 9 km of pressure pipelines, 9 drainage pumping stations, and 5 centralized wastewater treatment plants with a total capacity of 21,000 cubic meters per day and night.

The project aims to collect 75% of domestic wastewater and 100% of wastewater from household-scale industrial and handicraft facilities within the project area.

The total investment in the project is 1,498 billion VND, of which 959.6 billion VND comes from the provincial budget and 538.6 billion VND is non-refundable aid from the Netherlands. The project is expected to be completed and put into operation in June 2028.
