The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control on June 21 issued a directive to provincial committees in the northern region, asking them to be prepared for heavy rain accompanied by tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds.

The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported that the northern mountainous region experienced significant rainfall on June 20 night and June 21 morning.

Forecasts indicate the region will continue to see scattered showers and thunderstorms, with heavy rain and the potential for tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds.

The risk of flash floods, landslides in mountainous areas, and flooding in low-lying areas remains high.

The Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control has called on provincial committees to inspect affected areas and promptly deploy response, rescue and support teams to aid residents.

Task forces should review residential areas along rivers and streams, as well as low-lying areas prone to flooding, flash floods, and landslides, to ensure water flow is unobstructed and to organise evacuations if necessary.

Localities are urged to closely monitor warning and forecast bulletins and regularly notify and guide authorities and residents at all levels.
