Hai Duong launches responses to World Environment Day
Authorities, individuals, communities… are encouraged to participate in protecting the environment and biodiversity, dealing with climate change, and solving environmental hot spots.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Hai Duong province held a meeting in Co Dung commune, Kim Thanh district on June 4 morning in response to World Environment Day (June 5) and the Action Month for the Environment 2024.
The department suggested localities in the province carry out practical activities to enhance communication effectiveness, contributing to raising awareness about protecting the environment, nature, and biodiversity; dealing with climate change; and preventing and controlling natural disasters.
The event was aimed at mobilizing the active participation of authorities at all levels, organizations, unions, individuals, and communities in protecting the environment and biodiversity, dealing with climate change, and solving environmental hot spots.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment asked localities to direct specialized departments to actively propagandize World Environment Day, World Oceans Day (June 8), and Vietnam Sea and Island Week 2024 to form a series of activities in the Action Month.
The department also recommended frequent cleanups; collection and treatment of waste at agencies and schools; integration of circular economy, green economy, and sustainable development into local economic development; addition of education of the harmful effects of plastic waste and nylon bags to school curricula; replacement of single-use plastic materials with environmentally friendly ones in daily activities…
On this occasion, the provincial Environmental Protection Fund presented the People's Committee of Co Dung commune with 725 kg of microbial products; and the limited liability companies of Sumiden Vietnam Automotive Wire, Pacific Crystal, Regent Garment Factory, and Leo Paper Products (Vietnam) donated 725 plastic bins to compost organic waste.
World Environment Day was launched by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and has been annually celebrated in Vietnam since 1982.
