Hai Duong strengthens intellectual property protection for OCOP products
Intellectual property protection (IPP) not only improves the value of One Commune One Product (OCOP) products in Hai Duong province but also helps avoid counterfeiting.
Hai Duong province is home to 118 four-star OCOP products, whose trademarks are fully registered for IPP, according to the Rural Development Division under the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The compulsory registration of four-star OCOP products for IPP is supported by a large number of entities.
“I find this regulation necessary because it helps avoid counterfeiting on the market and improve the value of products in consumption,” said Bui Van Thanh, Director of Thanh Nhan Clean Agricultural Product Cooperative in Thuong Quan commune, Kinh Mon provincial town.
Hoang Giang JSC., a long-standing mung bean cake (MBC) producer in Hai Duong city, has 10 types of MBCs, nine of which have been recognized as four-star OCOP products, and one proposed for five-star OCOP recognition.
In addition to domestic consumption, the company’s products are also exported. To cope with counterfeiting as well as affirming quality and expanding the consumption market, the enterprise attaches special importance to IPP registration.
Its nine MBCs were registered for IPP in Vietnam on March 23, 2020 and in Japan on December 16, 2020.
To have intellectual property rights protected in a strict market like Japan, the firm must meet many technical and food hygiene and safety standards.
“This is our great success. When protected by Japan, our products are easily accepted in the US, Canada, South Korea… Intellectual property certificates are like a passport for products to be sold more conveniently on the market," said Chuyen.
Products of Tran Duc Hung’s incense production facility in Quoc Tuan commune, Nam Sach district were copied and counterfeited by several establishments inside and outside the province in the past.
Therefore, Hung registered his products for IPP in April 2019. The products have confirmed their position when participating in fairs and exhibitions inside and outside the province.
“Many customers feel secure when buying incense products from our facility because their intellectual property rights are protected," said Hung.
