Expectations for Eastern Highway Economic Corridor
The Vietnam Eastern Highway Economic Corridor (VEHEC) was born to promote the development of localities adjacent to Ha Noi – Hai Phong – Mong Cai expressway.
VEHEC is a joint initiative of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Quang Ninh, and Hung Yen.
The parties signed the VEHEC agreement in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province, in July 2022, opening up a new step in cooperation among the localities.
The VEHEC was born with the goal of promoting connection of the provinces and city on the basis of bringing into play the potential and advantages of each locality. All parties would deal with common challenges together for rapid and sustainable economic development, thereby forming an eastern economic belt, creating a growth pole for the Red River Delta.
The VEHEC carried out many programs and activities in 2023 for the four localities to utilize their advantages to serve socio-economic development.
The provinces and city actively participated in trade and investment promotion events to seek opportunities to lure investment.
As a member of the VEHEC, Hai Duong always proactively and actively took part in the activities as well as proposing measures to strengthen the corridor to concretize major policies and orientations on regional connection.
The province actively coordinated in information exchange and worked out contents to promote trade and investment promotion activities among the regional localities.
The province also concentrated all resources to accelerate the implementation of important traffic projects that will have a part in regional connection, including two interchanges of Ha Noi – Hai Phong expressway in Binh Giang and Thanh Ha districts.
Hai Duong intensified the development of industrial production and supporting industries and step by step formed supply and value chains.
In particular, the province focused on developing the infrastructure of industrial parks and clusters and took advantage of the eastern highway corridor towards seaports, airports, and logistics centers in the region. Quang Ninh province coordinated with Hai Duong to transport agricultural products through border gates, while Hai Phong city assisted the province with exit procedures at seaports...
To improve the VEHEC's operational efficiency in the coming time, Hai Duong has proposed the member localities and the VCCI provide information and share experience in attracting investment and mobilizing resources to realize the provincial planning freshly approved by the Prime Minister.
The localities should have a common voice in prioritizing resources to improve infrastructure systems, especially connecting traffic works, environmental treatment, and social infrastructure that directly serve the people and enterprises.
