Vietnam Railway Corporation (VNR) has proposed two railway routes connecting Cao Xa Station in the northern province of Hai Duong to China.

One route would start from Cao Xa Station in Cam Giang district, go through the stations of Yen Vien in Ha Noi, Kep in Bac Giang and Dong Dang in Lang Son and end at Quangxi’s Ping Xiang Station in China.

The other would connect Cao Xa Station with Lao Cai Station and China's Yunnan.

The travelling time to Ping Xiang and Yunnan would be around a day and a day and a half respectively.

Hai Duong is home to nearly 20 industrial parks and over 50 industrial clusters, according to VNR.

The demand for material imports from China among local enterprises is quite high. The export demand of foreign-invested firms in the province to foreign markets, including China, is also great. However, goods from Hai Duong have not yet been imported or exported through the railway.

Freight transportation through international railway routes would help save around two thirds of time for companies in Hai Duong compared to transportation from sea ports.

VNR has asked the provincial People’s Committee to build a 10,000-square metre container storage facility to serve the operation of the two aforementioned railway routes.
