Investment in new FDI projects rises over five times

USD144.5 million in foreign direct investment (FDI) was attracted to Hai Duong province in the first quarter of 2021, up 6% year on year, according to the Department of Planning and Investment.

In which, USD39.2 million was the total registered capital of five new projects, USD101.8 million was the additional capital of 14 FDI projects, and the rest was from foreign businesses which contributed capital to or bought shares of domestic enterprises.

Notably, the total investment in the new FDI projects was 5.4 times higher than the same period last year.

Some FDI projects with fairly large scales of initial and added capital were General Glory cosmetic production (USD20 million registered), Jun Cheng toy production (USD12 million registered), Sumidenso electric wire (USD39 million added), and Chemilens JSC.'s project (USD21.6 million added).

As assessed by the Department of Planning and Investment, though FDI businesses were strongly affected by the Covid-19 epidemic, all main norms in the first quarter were better than the same period in 2020.

Revenue of FDI businesses increased by 11.6%; export value, 10%; and import value, 5.2%.

At present, there are 484 valid FDI projects with a total registered capital of more than USD9.126 billion in the province. FDI businesses have disbursed a total investment of USD6.435 billion.
