Kien Giang plans Cambodia sea route

A sea route taking tourists from the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang to Cambodia’s Sihanoukville and Thailand will come into existence this year.

Speaking recently at a meetingwith representatives of Thailand’s Trat and Chanthaburi provinces, LeMinh Hoang, director of the province’s Department of Culture, Sports andTourism, said Kien Giang and Thailand had agreed on a sea route toCambodia.

Hoang said many foreign visitorstravelling to Thailand and Cambodia also want to go to Phu QuocIsland off Kien Giang province by the route.

It will take visitors around two and a half hours to go to Sihanoukville by boat from Phu Quoc and two more hours to Trat.

Kien Giang received nearly 5.6 million local and foreign visitors in2012, a year-on-year growth of 10 percent. It is expected to receivemore than 5.88 million this year.
