Kefico Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Hai Duong city) organizes foreign language classes for both workers and office staff
Recently, many enterprises in the province have linked with foreign language centers to open courses for employees
Practical needs
With the integrated economy, foreign language proficiency has become an important requirement. Many businesses prefer candidates with English certificates TOEIC 650 or IELTS 5.5 or higher.
Teaching English to employees (NLĐ) since 2016, Mr. Phung Anh Dung (Director of Royal English Language Center) said: Unlike the previous years, enterprises now organize foreign language classes for not only office staff but also for workers. Strict class organization process is applied from the orientation session, placement test, class placement and reporting academic results. Some workers who have to work overtime are tutored by the company and the center to keep up with classroom knowledge.
Realizing that workers have a need to enhance their foreign language proficiency, Hyundai Kefico Vietnam Company Limited (Hai Duong city) started to open English courses from the beginning of 2020. Employees who voluntarily register to participate in the courses are tested for placement. They study 2 sessions/week for a duration of 4-5 months. Sessions are held after working hours. Up to now, nearly 100 workers of the company have joined these courses.
Many workers, thanks to learning foreign languages, now can basically communicate with foreign employers and are arranged to work in higher sections.
Obvious effects
Vietnam Toyo Denso Company Limited (Nam Sach Industrial Park) started to organize English courses for employees from June 2020. Due to the influence of the Covid-19 pandemic, the classes were postponed from August to September 2020. Currently, the course includes about 20 students who hold the position of group leader or higher and have voluntarily registered. The training cost is VND 70 million/course, completely financed by the Company. According to the company leaders, though the course has not ended, the performance of these students has been obviously improved, especially in communicating or writing emails. Employees with good foreign language proficiency will be assigned new job positions which are suitable with their qualifications.
Ms. Diep Ha (Hai Duong city) currently teaches foreign languages in 3 limited companies: Iriso Electronics Vietnam, Hyundai Kefico Vietnam and CCL Design Vietnam. She said that unlike other trainees, learners who are workers are designed with a specific curriculum including background knowledge and business English. This curriculum is developed by the affiliate center and consistent with the documents provided by the company, ensuring output for the learners. Employees participating in the courses have become more confident in their work, a number of them have pursued higher level courses.
